A Royal Wedding

LONDON (Reuters) - British heir to the throne Prince Charles announced Thursday he will marry long-time lover Camilla Parker Bowles, the woman blamed for destroying his "fairytale" marriage to the late Princess Diana.

I should start by saying I am very much a Royalist. The monarchy is a great asset both financially and culturally for Great Britain. I do not envy the roayals for their pampered lives, in my opinion they give up so much in return that it is hardly a fair trade. Prince Charles is a personal favorite of mine, many see him as pompous, irrelevant and deceitful for his treatment of Princess Diana, I however have to disagree. Camilla is Charles soul mate, he should have married her in the first place instead of the media darling Diana. I do not begrudge him his happiness then or now, and I hope they have a long and happy marriage. I appreciate the reasoning behind making it so Camilla won’t become queen one day but I wish they had stood up to the critics and said be damned with you, but it is another example of the sacrifices Charles has made throughout his life. The most ironic element of the whole thing for me is the Church of England’s objection to Charles becoming the head of the church when he assumes the monarchy because of his Remarried Divorcee status. This is the same church famously born out Henry the Eighths need to divorce his 4th wife to marry his 5th…..

I always like Princess Diana. But, for hell's sake, she's been dead now for, egad, years! Just marry the woman, already!

Diana was never my cup of tea, she did bring in some much needed Genes int the Winsor household, but really she was a complete mess, start to finish. Charles was somewhat reluctant and the marriage was doomed from the outset. I think Camila and Charles have been very respectful of the situation and deserve their happiness now.

You know, Prince Charles is getting up there in years ... he might as well have some happiness now. It's not like he's breaking any laws, you know?

As for Princess Diana, I think she did a lot of good. Whether she was messed up, I can't say beyond I think all of us are messed up to some extent. It would be hard, I think, for someone who hasn't been raised in the royal mindset to break through whatever clique they may have had.

For Camila? Why didn't he marry her in the first place?

Charles is 57 I think, The Queen Mum made it to 101 and the Queen her self is looking good for another decade or three. Charles might not make it to be King, which will be a real shame, because they sacraficed his life to prepare him for being King. William is a fine young man, a credit to his father and mother and will make a good King too, but I hope that Charles gets to be King Charles the third for a few years at least.

Diana was never prepared for the media coverage she garnered. I'm sure court intrigue was a factor too, but the media hounds were her real downfall.

Charles, given the choice I think would have married Camila in a flash, however as in so much of his life he defered his personal feelings to the requirements of the job.
