My weekend
I normally don’t post about movies on this blog… I do that here….
But this weekend I went to see 2 and they were both worthy of more than a mere review.
First up ; Charlie and the Chocolate Factory…..BE WARNED… This is one screwball movie. If you liked the creepy weirdness of the first movie then just know this took that to the next level. Johnny Depp is inspired, he captures the part of the "eccentric" aka coo coo for Coco puffs Willy Wonka perfectly, actually upstaging Wilder. The umpa lumpas scenes are truly bizarre, I looked around the theater at one point to see the whole audience wide eyed, slack jawed and nervously laughing…. Awesome. I went to see it with my Wife’s Uncle and Aunt the look on their faces alone was worth the admittance on its own. The film had more about the background to Willy Wonka that the original, but lacked the belching scene as my 6 year old informed me, but it was an excellent film, well worth going to see. Favorite line : "that’s the puppet burns unit…. Hee hee…. Its new!"
Second movie ; Wedding Crashers….. With out doubt the best comedy of the year. This movie is crude, has some nudity and probably not for kids but man is it funny. The dialog between Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn when they are alone is one of the best written comedy I have seen in a film in a good long time. If you have seen the trailer then I assure you you have seen only a mere hint at the comedy in this film, you will NOT be disappointed. This film had me in tears begging them to lay off for a second to allow me to catch my breath. The supporting cast are awesome too, Walken and the guy who plays the insane gay brother were particularly brilliant. The one let down was Will Farrells short (thankfully) role in which he reverted to his clown like over acting tomfoolery, might work for him in SNL, but it sucks in the movies, he should stick to roles like the one he had in Kicking and screaming.
So with all that movie watching you might think I did nothing else this weekend ? well you would be wrong. The wood finally came in for my living room floor. It took Lowes over 6 weeks to get hold of the stock. For those of you who don’t know I had a little flood a few months back and had to replace 250sqft. Apparently this stuff only goes in one way and that wasn’t the direction we were going…. After a few hours trying to get it to go, we ended up trimming the edges and just butting it together. Worked pretty well I will need to do some finishing to make it look nice but al in all I ain’t complaining. This morning I ache.
Saturday was my Daughter in England’s 12th birthday It kinda upsets me to talk about the fact that I haven’t seen her on her birthday since she was 7 so I’m not going to blog about it, just suffice to say I had several really nice calls to her this weekend.
This weekend we also had a new arrival…. My wife had to take a pee sample (of the dog) to the vet on Saturday morning, she returned an hour later with an 8 week old Kitten. It is soooooo cute…. The kids love it, I love it, the Dogs…. Well they are neutral…. Actually they are just curious and there was no nastiness on their part, the kitten gave the 110lb German shepherd a scratch across his nose, which sent him wimpering across the room. We decided not to keep the kitten, because Mommy is a meanie… but it was fun to have the little fellow around.
Finally I got my blood results back and the news was not good. As expected I have high cholesterol, so I now have to diet and exercise… yeah right, the medicine had better work miracles as the diet excludes every single food or drink I imbibe on any regular basis. At least I wasn’t Diabetic and my blood pressure is back under control. All of this came from me having a stupid bump on my head, if I hadn’t gone to the doc for that he would never have figured out my BP issues and then would have never found out about the Cholesterol and I wouldn’t be being sucked in to the whirlpool of modern medicine. I expect to be dead from hypercondria within 5 years.
Oh I nearly forgot, My children (6 and 3) had their first sleepovers ever at their auntie's house. My wife will not allow them to spend the night away from us and has consistantly refused to consider them going to stay away. So imagine my suprise when I hear her telling my 6 year old that if she went to play then she would be staying the night... I did a double take and then shock of shocks she extended it to the 3 yo too!!! who are you and what have you done with my wife....... My Wife regreted it from the second they walked out the door and was very relieved when the phone rang at 2am and it was her cousin saying they want to come home. I was dispatched to retrieve them and we all snuggled up and slept soundly until the morning.

Sounds like you had quite a weekend full of activities.
I really enjoy Johnny Depp as an actor. And boy does he have good genes, to look as young as he does.
Both of those movies are ones I wanna see. Maybe I can fit them in as a diversionary tactic somehow in the midst of my moving madness.
I'm sorry about your daughter. Happy Birthday to her.
And your wood floor, what can I say? It's probably nice to have it fixed, eh?
So, I guess you'll be laying off the eggs for awhile then? (hee, I said "laying" and "eggs")
When I first saw the preview for Charlie and the Chocolate factory, I thought Johnny Depp was a woman.
J. Very busy, explains why I am so tired this week. Johnny Depp I can take or leave, I really liked him in Pirates of the caribean, but have not cared for him in other films. In CATCF he was perfect for the role. Yes it is nice to have a floor again, seems like it has been a year since it all came up. I'm a little disapointed with one bit where the new joins the old but I am working on that.
Do you know I only started eating eggs because of a salmanella outbreak. I'm not overly fond of them so it won't be an issue cutting them out, some of the other things are going to be tougher.
Jethro, lol, reminds me of the first concert I ever went to. My buddy wanted me oogle this hot chick in a band called faster pussycat, turned out that 'Brent' wasn't exactly what my friend was looking for in a potential dream date.... He took quite a bit of ribbing for that I remember
"Brent" - LOL! I don't think I would EVER let that one go
