New Post.

I’ve been neglecting this a little with my busy life so here is a new musing for both of you to mull….
Every night I read to my daughters, I am not a good reader. I was diagnosed with mild dyslexia when I was 13 and I have a problem recognizing words. Frequently my mind makes a snap decision about what a word is before I have even got to it in the sentence I am reading, and no matter how slow I go it is locked in. even when I say it out loud and know it’s wrong I really have a hard time re reading it and coming up with the right word. To compensate I guess when I am reading I will rearrange all the other words around it and make the sentence work. Now this worked fine when my 6 year old was 4 but now she is able to follow me in the book, and I get "Daddy…. That’s not what it says" It is sad to say that my 6 year old has surpassed me in the reading department. What is really weird for me is that her teacher came to us and said she was the top reader in her class and was reading a couple of grades ahead of her age group… how does the daughter of a dyslexic father who can’t manage the cat in the hat get to be such a great reader? So any way she is signed up now for a story telling concert in March where she has to retell a story for an audience, so her reading focus is centered on "are you my Mother" and I have a feeling she is going to excel once more.
I guess what I am saying is that I am so very glad that my daughter is not cursed the way I am and that one day when I am old and decrepit that she will sit and read to me, that would make me very happy.

Wow. That's an awesome story, and awesome that you shared that with us. I had no idea. You always have the most hilarious comments. Now it makes sense though that when you're busy you only swing through to say "hi" and not read. I feel doubly blessed, no triple blessed, that you take the time to read my blog(s).

And no one can say where kids get their talents from. Some, I know, I got from my mom, and some are clearly from my dad, but others ... who knows?
