Radio madness
Why am I listening to Rush Limbaugh? And Glenn Beck? I have no idea! I guess it is to try and hear the other side to this Schaivo case.
Well now he is on to talking about social security and I am just listening because he makes me feel superior. So putting that aside I would like to focus on the things in the Schaivo case that irritate me.
Why do I wish her dead ? That was the charge laid at my feet as a supporter of Michael over the parents. I don’t wish her dead, I wish her a long, rich and fulfilling live, but unfortunately that has already been denied her. I think she should be allowed to die because she expressed a wish not to be kept alive in a persistent vegetative state. You may argue that she is not is such a state, to you I give the overwhelming medical opinion from doctors appointed by the court to make that exact determination. You may also argue that she never told the husband that she would rather die than be kept alive in that condition, to you I say why do you not believe him, The judges in 21 courts throughout this land have not found that to be true or there to be any indication that it might have a shred of credibility.
What’s the hurry to have her die? No hurry at all, 15 years 19 courts unconstitutional laws, every possible accusation heard and denied, this is anything but a rushed decision, this has been mandated for more than 7 years now, that is not rushing, that in not being in a hurry. Why suddenly do we have out of state protesters here this week, Congress making unprecedented rulings on private legal matters why do we have president who couldn’t break his vacation to send his sympathy for the Tsunami victims for 3 days breaking his vacation and flying back to Washington to sign in a law that only 3% of senators actually voted on, why is the federal appeals court making rulings (even right ones) at 3am. That is rushing, that is hurrying, its not like this has not been coming for 15 years.
Why do I want her to starve and dehydrate to death it’s such an agonizing death? I don’t I would give her a lethal injection any day of the week, but the people who would object to that are the self same morons that are asking me this question.
And then the last thing, that I have asked countless times and am yet to get an answer. Given that the money is long gone on Medical and legal expenses, given that Michael could easily walk away from this whole thing, with huge sums of cash in his pocket from well meaning religious right supporters, What is his motive for wanting to see this through? But today I got my answer… Today I heard the first person to come back to me with a reason for Michael’s perseverance. Terri’s sister this morning on the radio stated that Michael was a bully, that he made her bulimic, that he injected her with drugs that caused her heart attack, that the reason he wanted her dead was that when she regained consciousness and her speech she would indite him in an attempted murder charge…… well you cant argue with that can you……
People take a step back and look at this one please, look at who the Schindlers have advising them… A Hellenic medicine doctor and a Franciscan monk…. complete with robe and rope belt… look at the preposterous and totally unsubstantiated claims they are making, see a family driven mad with grief and then see your self in the place of Terri Schaivo brain dead, in the exact situation that you wished to never be in.

Okay, I've been looking up Hellenic medicine all day and even asked my professors if they knew anything about it. None of them knew much more than what I've already told you. Despite this, I wouldn't rule out the Hellenic doctor yet. Alternative medicine may have some loons in them, but there are still a substantial amount who are very well trained. Even better than some of your allopathic MDs. Do you know what this doctor said to the family?
Man, I haven't listened to Rush Limbaugh since ... ... gosh, I don't know when. Maybe 6=7 years ago? Went to see him speak in person once, he was still a big man at that point. Heh.
This also may sound odd or jaded, but I haven't followed Terri's case. People have gotten all worked up about it but there isn't one damn thing any of us can do to change the court's decision. All we can do is make sure we don't allow ourselves to fall into the same situation.
So, have I drawn up my living will yet? No. But I do have a form I had to fill out before my surgery last year, a directive (?) I think it was, that's generally inclusive and would stand up for me should I not be able to speak for myself.
Jethro, I haven't fared much better, and I'm sorry I don't share your feelings with regard to alternative medicine (including your chosen field, please do not take offence, lets say I listen with a healthy dose of sceptisism) I don't know what he has said particularly just thathe is giving them false hope, now we have another doctor who says she is in a minimally concious state.... but he has not examined her... well thats great medicine for you if you ask me, the fact of the matter is as appeal after appeal is denied they get more and more desperate, and you have only heard the latest month of it, we are in our 8th year.
Jeanette, saw him in person, wow that was unfortunate, I forced myself to listen to him today just so I could make sure I was hearing both sides. The man is a fucking idiot, pure and simple and I apologise for the vulgarity but he really is quite possibly the most idiotic man I have ever had the misfortune to listen too. As I have said elsewhere I don't think a living will would have helped in this case, the Schindlers will stop at nothing, including the US constitution and a piece of paper saying she wanted to die would not have stopped them. You are right of course, It is a good idea to have one just in case, although I resent the implication that my wife would not be able to make those decisions for me if I were in that situation. May I suggest too that you discuss this issue will all you're nearest and dearest so there is no doubt where you stand on this issue.
Man, you're entitled to your opinion regarding alternative medicine. Most of our patients are people where allopathic medicine has failed. I hear it all the time, "I've gone to this doctor and that doctor and nobody has helped me. So, I thought why not give you guys a shot."
Actually, How much do you know about alternative medicine?
Jethro, Fortunatly I do not have much experiance with regular or alternative medicine. I don't dismiss alternatives out of hand, but I don't like unliecenced people with limited medical training going round masquarading as doctors. I know you are in training right now and apreciate that you may well represent the more legitimate side of the deal, but I also see alot of less qualified practitioners who IMHO are just taking everyone for a ride.
