back in the saddle

OK, setting aside the family issues for now at least it’s on with the show. I have deleted the posts that caused the problems and changed the URL which should solve the problem.
So putting that aside on with some other issues… first up New Orleans. As the political shit starts to fly I feel compelled to put in my 2 cents. For me the responsibility lays squarely at the feet of the Mayor and Governor… now while I admit the disaster was immense it does not excuse the fact that more should have been done before and after the event to help the people of NO. I guess what struck home to me was the difference between the steps taken in Louisiana compared to the process we frequently go through here in Florida on a regular basis, the difference in level of preparedness is glaring. I understand that the flooding and the apparent escape when the hurricane veered away at the last minute, but honestly they must have known that with a huge storm surge from a cat 4/5 was far more than the levies could ever stand. NO was doomed and they knew it but sat around saying "whew, that was close" see even if they didn’t know it was their job to know, the levies were only built to withstand a cat 3 storm, what were they thinking? The blame also has to land on the president’s feet too, not so much because of his actions, but just because ultimately he is responsible for all of the American people, and the actions / inactions of those serving under him. However some of the charges leveled at him go way beyond the realm of reason. Which brings me to Mr. West and his comments, and for that matter the rest of the black community trying to make this a race issue. I have little doubt that there have been individual acts of racism, but to level a claim that the administrations inability to react was motivated by the racial make-up of the people left behind is absurd. Yes they were incompetent, but racially motivated to withhold help? I don’t think so. I am perhaps the least racist person on the planet but comments like these do a huge disservice to those legitimate accusations, it is the equivalent of the woman crying rape when in fact nothing happened. I can have no respect for people who make comments like these be they black, white or sky blue with pink spots (I’ve seen them… they are out there I tell you…. Watching…. Waiting….)
OK think less heavy thoughts… think less heavy thoughts…. Sport… what a weird week in sports! NFL is finally kicking off, Fantasy team is picked , preseason is over and tonight is the night! I am so looking forward to this. Lightning are going into training too, the football season back home is in full swing and England are leading the Ozzies 2-1 in the ashes (cricket) then comes the world cup qualifier…. England playing Northern Ireland…. Not all of Ireland, just the northern part… an easy win to virtually guarantee qualification to the world cup in Germany next year. A quick victory over our hapless cousins who haven’t beaten us since 1927 or something….. what do we do? Yup, true to form England go and lose 1-0 :: shakes head :: 1-0 ::bashes head on the desk:: one fricking nil… prepares to slit wrists!!! How the hell does England lose to Northern Ireland? ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!
