Sweet and Sour…..
Well I had a really nice story to relate to y’all today, but on the way in today I heard some news that I just had to comment on, so today’s post is in two parts…..
THE SWEET : My 5 year old got 2 dollars the other day, and has been pleased as punch about them, she has been going to the shops to figure out what to buy with her 2 dollars. Yesterday while I was opening my birthday cards, I opened the one from my wife’s parents and it had some money in it, when I then opened up my daughters card she came running up to me and gave me one of her dollars.... It was one of the sweetest things I have ever seen. I framed it, and had her write her name and age on the mat.
THE SOUR : Now I am not a gun control advocate, I think that banning most guns in the UK worked well, but just because it worked there does not mean that it is something that would work well here in the US at all. I also agree with the current laws that allow you to shoot an intruder in your home if you feel threatened, basically if someone is in you house without your permission they are up to no good, but today Jeb Bush signed into law a law that allows you to shoot dead people in the street, if you feel threatened…. Now I said I don’t support the abolition of guns, but I can’t condone a law that allows "… people to defend themselves in public with deadly force without fear of prosecution." Now I appreciate that there may well be strict definitions of what constitutes a threatening situation but with Rednecks with 3 teeth and less brain cells just itching for a reason to put that concealed weapons class training to good use, this law just scares me….. come October 1st I will be smiling at everyone. Beside all that I wonder how long it will take for some smart lawyer to twist this round to get a murdering sack of shit off Scott free, I predict before Oct 31st. Here’s a scenario for you… A bank robber in the process of a robbery is confronted by some dumbass kid emboldened by his new right to use his gun, the robber shoots him dead in a second, and uses the same law to justify his homicide….. Another interesting point that has just occurred to me, as citizens we are somewhat obligated to prevent crimes when possible without breaching the law ourselves, are we not obligated now to gun the bad guys down? And another thing… Dueling is now legal! If both guys raise their guns and start shooting they are both protected by this law, even in the local mall at high noon…..How come I never heard of this law until it has already been signed into law? How come they asked me at the last election if I wanted them to put in a high speed railway, but didn’t bother asking if I wanted relaxed gun control…. Hey, who is playing the dueling banjos?
Oh and just in case you thought this only effects us dumb Floridians, this is what the vice president of the NRA had to say "first step of a multi-state strategy" and "There's a big tailwind we have, moving from state legislature to state legislature,"
In defense of my ignorance of the existence of this legislation Sarah Brady, a leading gun control activist said "I am in absolute shock,…. If I had known about it, I would have been down there."

Do you have a link to the actual law? It almost sounded like the law was designed to protect people trying to protect themselves. Being "threatened" should also be clearly defined already. Based on your scenario, situations like that should be prosecutable.
Aint nuthin like goin back to them thar days of thee wild wild west.
I'm wondering, like Jethro, how the actual law is worded. Hrm.
Ummm, Happy Birthday? to you?
Angi, I still don't believe in god ;-)
Jethro, It is not so much the wording of the law that bothers me it is the implication. I am concerned with the message that is sent and also what ignorant rednecks are going to understand, I doubt they are going to bother themselves to read the legal terms, much less understand them if the do, My concern will be the "sez here I can shoot 'em" kinda attitude.
Jeanette, yee haw Cowboy! (my wife hates it when I do a yankee accent!) I do not have the actual wording to hand, I'm only going on what I read on the front page of the Tampa trib, but as your question mimics Jethro's youcan read his answer above... which you probably already have in which case you don't need to go read it again.... unless you want too.., or not....
Oh and yes indeed, yesterday was my 29th birthday.
Man, you reminded me of another story I can post about.
Glad to have been of service......
YAY for birthdays!! :) Happy Birthday.
That was very sweet of her to give you her dollar. Those are some of the most precious moments in life. Charish it, when she is older she'll be asking for that dollar and then some. lol
It is hanging on the wall next to my bed, it was such an awesome gift. Having just shelled out for her elder sister's wedding I know that it is largely a one way street.
